Tribal elders and Islamic clerics in northwest Pakistan have barred women from buying in bazaars without a male relative. The selection become taken on Friday via tribal elders in the Karak district of conservative Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders the restive tribal regions alongside the Afghan border.


“we’ve got decided that ladies will not go to bazaars without a male family member,” Maulana Mirzaqeem, a cleric and tribal elder, advised AFP by way of telephone. “folks who will go to markets with out male household can be handed over to police,” he said.

“They unfold vulgarity and spoil men’s fasting in Ramadan,” Mirzaqeem stated, including that the ban could be publicised using nearby mosques’ loudspeakers.
